She is currently in the dissertation phase of working on her PhD in English Literature with an emphasis in 19th century British literature, early modern literature, and children's literature. Travis has taught at California Baptist University since 2004 and have been full-time since 2006. She enjoys reading all kinds of books, depending on the day and mood. At the moment, she finds particular joy in reading with her young children and watching as they go from the audience to the readers. Many of Travis' scholarly efforts explore fantasy literature or children's literature, often both. Her most recent scholarly endeavor was a chapter in a book on Star Wars fan culture: “From Bikinis to Blasters: The Role of Gender in the Star Wars Universe” Fan Phenomena: Star Wars. (Ed. Mika Elovarra) Bristol: Intellect, 2013. Like most avid readers, Travis dabbles in writing a novel, and in her words, "[a] young adult fantasy novel, that will likely never see the light of publication."
